Connect AI Apps with Recoble MCP

With Recoble MCP, AI apps that support MCP — such as ChatGPT, Claude and Claude Code — can find, read, create and edit the notes, workboards, calendars, email and chat in your Recoble space. Each space has its own connection URL; add that URL to your AI app and you're set.

What is MCP?

MCP (Model Context Protocol) is a standard way for AI apps to use another service's features as "tools". The Recoble MCP server offers Recoble features — finding notes, creating items, scheduling events — as tools, and the AI app picks the ones it needs for your request.

  • You don't need to know any tool names. Just ask the way you normally would.
  • The AI app can only reach the space you connected and the features you allowed.
  • Its access matches your own account permissions. Notes or items you can't see are hidden from the AI app too.

What you can do

  • Meetings and documents: "Summarize only the decisions in yesterday's meeting notes", "Add a Next steps section to the end of the 'Q3 Roadmap' note"
  • Work management: "Which of my items on the dev backlog are due this week?", "Set the progress of 'Fix login error' to 50%"
  • Schedule: "Book a design review tomorrow at 3 PM", "Show this week's events by day"
  • Email and chat: "Find the invoice email and summarize it", "Show chat messages that mention me"
  • Links and traceability: "Link the requirements note to the 'Fix login error' item", "Show a graph of everything linked to this note"
  • Development work: In Claude Code, read a workboard item, do the work, then leave a comment and change its status when you're done.

Before you start

  • Every space has a different connection URL. To use several spaces, connect each one separately.
  • Only members of a space can connect it.
  • Calendar, email, chat and dashboards belong to your account, not to a space. You can allow them only when you connect your default space.

Find your connection URL

  1. Open Space settings from the menu of the space you want to connect.
  2. Choose the Connections tab and open AI tools. The URL shown is for the space whose settings you opened.
  3. Click Copy next to Connect URL.

The URL looks like https://mcp.recoble.com/s/<space ID>/mcp. Connecting with it gives the AI app every feature available in that space.

✋ Note: A connection URL belongs to one space. To switch spaces, revoke the existing connection and connect again with the other space's URL.

Connect from ChatGPT, Claude and other AI apps

Web and desktop AI apps connect by signing in to Recoble (OAuth). You don't need to create a token.

  1. In your AI app's settings, open the screen for adding a connector (sometimes called an app or MCP server). Menu names and the plans that offer this differ by app, so check the app's own help.
  2. Add a custom connector and paste the Connect URL you copied.
  3. When you start connecting, a Recoble sign-in window opens. Sign in with the account you want to connect.
  4. On the Authorize access screen, check the AI app's name, the Target space and the requested permissions. If you're asked to pick a space, choose it under Space to connect.
  5. If you're connecting your default space, you can tick calendar, email, chat or dashboards under Also allow account features.
  6. Click Allow to finish.

💡 Tip: If Recoble tools don't show up in the AI app after connecting, start a new conversation or reconnect the connector. AI apps fetch the tool list when they connect.

Connect from Claude Code and scripts (access token)

For terminal tools, scripts and server integrations — places where a sign-in window is hard to open — connect with an access token in a header.

  1. Go to Access tokens (scripts and CLIs) under Space settings › Connections › AI tools.
  2. Enter an Access token name. Pick a name that tells you where the token is used.
  3. Choose a permission.
    • Read — only tools that find and read. Nothing can be created, changed or deleted.
    • Read + Write — also the tools that create, change and delete.
  4. If needed, pick calendar, email, chat or dashboards under AI feature access. This is available only for tokens issued in your default space; if you pick nothing, the token covers this space's notes and workboards only.
  5. Choose an Expiration of 7, 30, 90, 180 or 365 days.
  6. Click Issue and copy the token right away. It is shown only this once.

In Claude Code, connect with this command. Replace <space ID> and <access token>.

claude mcp add --transport http recoble https://mcp.recoble.com/s/<space ID>/mcp \
  --header "Authorization: Bearer <access token>"

Other tools work the same way: register the connection URL as an HTTP MCP server with the header Authorization: Bearer <access token>.

✋ Note: An access token is as powerful as a password. Anyone who has it can reach this space's data. Don't put it in a repository or a chat, and revoke it immediately if it leaks.

Available tools

The AI app receives the tools below that match the connection's permissions and picks them to fit your request. When one tool does several things, the action names (method) are listed in parentheses.

  • A Read connection only gets the tools marked "Read".
  • Calendar, email, chat and dashboard tools are included only when you allowed that feature.
  • Space

    • get_connection_info — Shows the connected space, the account and the names of connected email accounts. (Read)

How your data is protected

  • Confirm before acting: Sending, replying to, forwarding or deleting email, sending chat messages and deleting notes do nothing unless the call carries a confirmation. So the AI app first shows you the target and the content, and acts only after you confirm.
  • Trash: Deleted notes, workboards and items go to the trash. They disappear from the screen right away but can be restored from the trash. Deleting emails or emptying a folder also moves the emails to the trash.
  • Can't be undone: Deleting a link and deleting an item comment can't be undone.
  • Version history: When a note body is rewritten or edited, the earlier text stays in the note's version history.
  • Call limits: Each connection (token) can make up to 100 read calls, 30 write calls and 5 send or delete calls per minute (50 per day). Beyond that, you'll be asked to try again shortly.

Manage connections

  • Connected apps: Space settings › Connections › Connected apps lists the AI apps connected by signing in, with the app, space, permission, connected date, last used and status. Click Revoke on an app you no longer use to block it immediately.
  • Access tokens: The token list under AI tools shows each token's permission, allowed features, expiry and last use. Click Revoke to cut off every integration using that token immediately.

Best practices

  • Start with familiar tasks. Read-only requests like finding or summarizing notes make it easy to see how the AI app works.
  • Be specific about names. Say "the 'Q3 Roadmap' note" instead of "that note", or "the 'Dev Backlog' board" instead of "the backlog", so the AI app picks the right target.
  • Allow only what you need. Use a Read token if you only need to look things up, and allow calendar, email, chat and dashboards only when you use them.
  • Ask for a plan before big changes. Before changing many items at once, ask "show me what you'll change first" to avoid mistakes.

Frequently Asked Questions

Which AI apps can I connect?

Any AI app that supports remote (HTTP) MCP servers. Apps that connect by signing in (OAuth) only need the connection URL; tools that send a header also need an access token.

Can one connection cover several spaces?

No. Each connection reaches one space. To use another space, add another connection with that space's URL.

I can't see the calendar or email tools.

Calendar, email, chat and dashboards are included only when you connect your default space and allow those features. For a sign-in connection, check Also allow account features on the Authorize access screen; for an access token, check AI feature access. Email tools also need an email account connected in Recoble.

I want a read-only connection.

Use an access token issued with the Read permission. That connection only gets tools that find and read, so nothing can be changed.

The AI app says there are no tools.

Start a new conversation or reconnect the connector. If that doesn't help, check in the connected apps list or the token list that the connection is Active and the token hasn't expired.

Can someone else see my data through my connection?

A connection works with the permissions of the account that created it. If you give your access token to someone, they get the same access, so don't share it.

What happens when I revoke a connection?

The connection loses access to Recoble immediately. To use it again, connect again.
