Restore Deleted Notes

If you delete a note by mistake, you can find it in Trash and restore it. When you delete a note, its child notes and workboards go to Trash with it, and they come back together when you restore it.

Undo a Note You Just Deleted

  1. When you delete a note, the message Moved to Trash appears.
  2. Click Undo in the message to put the note right back where it was.

Open Trash

  1. Click Trash near the bottom of the left sidebar.
  2. Review the list of deleted items. Not only notes but also workboards, events, files, and more collect here.
  3. Use the type buttons at the top to show only Notes.

💡 Tip: If you do not remember the note title, enter its original location in the search field, or sort by Newest first or Oldest first to find it.

✋ Note: Items are permanently deleted automatically 30 days after they reach Trash. You can see how much time each item has left in the list.

Restore a Note

  1. Find the note you want to restore in the Trash list.
  2. Click Restore in that note's row.
  3. In the confirmation window, check how many child items will come back with it, then click Restore.
  4. Open the restored note again from the sidebar.

✋ Note: If the original parent note is still in Trash, the restored note goes back under the closest parent note that still exists.

✋ Note: A note is not restored if restoring it would go over your plan's note or item limit, or if the space is read-only. You can still delete permanently in a read-only space.

Delete Permanently

  1. To delete one note, click Delete in its row. To delete several, select them and click Delete selected. To delete everything, click Empty trash.
  2. In the Delete permanently confirmation window, check the items and attached files that will be deleted.
  3. Click Delete permanently to continue.

✋ Note: You cannot undo a permanent delete. For important notes, restore them and check them again before you delete.

💡 Tip: If there is a lot to delete, the deletion continues in the background. You can keep working, and we will notify you when it is done.

Frequently Asked Questions

What happens when I delete child notes inside a note?

The child notes move to Trash too. In Trash, they are grouped in the parent note's row as "Includes N child item(s)", and they come back when you restore the parent note.

Does emptying Trash free up storage?

Yes. When you delete permanently, attached files used only by that note are deleted too, and the space is freed. Files that other documents also use are kept. You can see how much storage will be freed in the permanent delete confirmation window.
